The climatic conditions in Gomel Oblast have changed in recent decades and now local farmers grow berries and vegetables that are native to southern countries. Fro example, this year Igor Grinko's farm is harvesting 30 varieties of watermelons, and also pumpkins and peppers, which grow nicely on melon plantations. The yield of watermelons reached about 70 tonnes per hecatrethis year.

The Nizhny Novgorod Oblast representative office was made familiar with prospects of Gomel Oblast regions over the course of two days. They visited a cheese and dairy products enterprise of OAO Milkavita, a workwear manufacturing enterprise, and a reinforced-concrete products enterprise in Khoiniki District. MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Belarusian farmers have gathered in 258,900 tonnes of cereals, the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA. As of 19 July winter barley was harvested from 45,100ha of land (75.6% of the targeted area), with 236,100 tonnes produced and the average yield at 52.4 centners per hectare. Some 504,100 tonnes of hay has been stockpiled in Belarus, the Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA. As of 14 July, as part of the second grass cutting agricultural workers cut down grass on 61.7% of the designated area in Brest Oblast, 8.7% in Vitebsk Oblast, 38.6% in Gomel Oblast, 33.2% in Grodno Oblast, 44.8% in Minsk Oblast, and 29.8% in Mogilev Oblast. This year, the center will admit children from Bryansk Oblast and Kaluga Oblast of Russia as well as Brest Oblast and Gomel Oblast of Belarus – all in all, more than 400 children aged 6 to 16 years. Each recuperation cycle lasts 21 days and provides for an extensive cultural and educational program in addition to health improvement services.
